The
Makaha Sons -Moon, John & Jerome -
is one of Hawai`i's top recording and performing
groups. The music of this ever-popular trio is
nothing
short of magic - three - part harmonies unmatched
in sweetness and precision, accompanied by innovative
and vibrant arrangements.
Over
the years the Makaha Sons have had the opportunity
to record music with their friends who are also
some of the premier recording artists in Hawai'i.
The names read like a who's who in Hawaiian music,
Robert Cazimero, Teresa Bright, Robi Kahakalau,
Dennis Pavao, Cyril Pahinui, Nina Keali'iwahamana,
Jerry Santos, Del Beazley, Manu Boyd and Rocky
Brown. This album presents some of these performances
in a sparkling and varied collection. As a bonus,
four new tracks by the Sons are also included.
The
Makaha Sons - Moon, John & Jerome began as the
Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau, a driving force in Hawaiian
music that was founded in 1976. The
Makaha Sons have put their own stamp on traditional
melodies, and their unique harmonies and arrangements
have set them apart in the 25 years they have
been making music.
The
Sons tour extensively throughout the West Coast
and Japan where the name is instantly recognized.
They had performed under the banner of Portrait
of Hawai'i's Music, bringing a unique cultural
experience to the cities they visited. In recent
years they have added concert performances and
fans in new areas including Colorado, Texas, Washington
DC, Massachusetts, Florida, Alaska, Wisconsin
and New York.
The
group has twice performed at Carnegie Hall in the
past few years. As recording artists the Makaha Son's
albums have garnered multiple Na Hoku Hanohano Awards
of excellence (Na Hoku Hanohano Awards are the Hawaiian
equivalent of the Grammy Awards). Among the awards
include Best Vocal Group, Best Traditional Album,
Best Song in the Hawaiian Language, Engineering and
Graphics awards.
Over the years they have recorded 17 albums. Many
of these have been recognized by the Hawaiian
recording industry with Na Hoku Hanohano Awards
of excellence (the Na Hoku Hanohano Awards is
the Hawaiian equivalent of the Grammys). Among
the awards include Vocal Group of the Year, Traditional
Album of the Year, Best Song in the Hawaiian Language,
